SEA OTTER
Enhydra lutris
I was in Homer, Alaska, primarily to photograph Bald Eagles fishing, but we had the added bonus of seeing Sea Otters, too. They are not small, weighing up to 45kg. Once hunted for fur, they are now protected but still classified as an endangered species. Females were cautious around us when with their young, which were so buoyant they were unable to dive! However, one male had seen it all before and was completely relaxed and ignored our presence.
