POLAR BEAR
Ursus maritimus
I have always wanted to photograph Polar Bears in the wild, and Churchill on the northern shores of Manitoba, Canada, is known as the ‘Polar Bear capital of the world’! Once a US military base during the sixties, Churchill sits at the mouth of the Churchill river, which, because it is fresh water, freezes before the Hudson Bay. This is the moment the Polar Bears have been waiting for, as their primary food source is seals (they will also actively stalk humans as a food source…!) I keep saying it, but you need some luck, you are dependent on the sea ice as once it’s formed, they’re gone! Five fantastic days courtesy of Danny Green and natures-images.co.uk
