OSPREY
Pandion haliaetus
I have visited the Rothiemurcus trout farm a couple of times to photograph Osprey, as the low level hides there are brilliant. You always need some luck with wildlife photography – the light, the wind direction…are the birds fishing and are they successful? etc. Osprey plummet feet first into the water to catch their prey, becoming totally submerged. During this time, they realign the fish so it is head first, before lifting themselves and their prey out of the water – remarkable to witness! Imagine my surprise in capturing an Osprey with not one, but two Rainbow Trout (more than its own body weight). Amazing!
